Liberty Hall: The Legacy of Marcus Garvey

The Annual Marcus Mosiah Garvey Lecture and Harambee 2017

Aug 17, 2017 – Aug 17, 2017
August 17, 2017 marks the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the birth of Marcus Mosiah Garvey, world renowned Pan-African leader and Jamaica’s First National Hero. To commemorate this event, Liberty Hall will host its 8th Annual Marcus Mosiah Garvey Lecture at 76 (Upper) King Street at 10 a.m. Under the theme “Garvey as Literary Muse”, Mr Geoffrey Philp, author of Garvey’s Ghost will deliver the annual lecture in the Garvey Great Hall at Liberty Hall.

In addition, we will launch Volume 3 of 76 King Street, the journal of Liberty Hall: The Legacy of Marcus Garvey. 76 King Street is an academic journal dedicated to Marcus Garvey with the aim to be a site for discussion of his life, work, and philosophy and related subjects, including African history and current affairs affecting people of African descent.

Our Open House/Information Fair, Harambee, will feature local crafts for sale and free tours of the Marcus Mosiah Garvey Multimedia Museum will be given throughout the day. Gates open at 9:30 am, admission is free and parking is available on site.

On August 19, 2017 we will be hosting our Saturday Opening from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. All tours on this day are free to the public. We however, encourage you to support the gift shop.
